Course Outline
The so-called artificial intelligence (AI) is making headway in a number of areas, translation
being no exception. There are both pros and cons to this technology, which translators should address to be able to make informed decisions in and for the future.
Participants will learn more about the systems currently available, such as ChatGPT. They will discover their machine translation (MT) capabilities and contrast them with widely used MT systems. They will delve into the art of prompting AI systems and practice genAI's useful features beyond MT, such as language conditioning, MT customization, and translation quality evaluation.

We are proud to offer this course in cooperation with the Czech Union of Interpreters and Translators (FIT member).

Aims Of The Training
✔️ Understand the basics of how genAI works as well as its use cases in the area of translation.
✔️ Acquire the skill of programming AI by using natural language (prompting), with a focus
on functionalities relevant for translators.
✔️ Learn about AI integration into computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, eg Trados Studio,
Phrase and others.
✔️ Gain competencies in comparing and evaluating the quality of MT engines and genAI.
Course Structure
There are four modules in the all-day training, a lunch break of 60 minutes & two coffee breaks of 15 minutes each.
Intro: the shift in the technology landscape for translators with the introduction of genAI.
Ten rules for efficient prompting pointing out various approaches to prompt design (one-shot, cascade prompting, comprehensive prompt, context/revision prompting).
ChatGPT's MT functionality.
ChatGPT's functions beyond translation: MT customization, term extraction, language conditioning and more.
GenAI integration into CAT tools.
Course Materials
Apart from a Certificate issued by JTP on course completion, participants will receive a recording of the training and complimentary materials: a collection of resource materials, a sheet comprising Ten Golden Rules for GenAI Prompting as well as a Catalog of Useful Prompts specifically tailored for translators and those working in the area of translation.
Prerequisites
No experience in genAI prompting is required. Participants are advised to create their own ChatGPT account ( https://chat.openai.com/auth/login ). There is no need to have a paid version of ChatGPT. Familiarity with specific CAT tools is not necessary. The training is not language-specific. Participants experiment with genAI according to their respective language pair. The language of course delivery is English.
